Our general membership meeting will be held at the Club on October 24 beginning at 5:00pm. At that meeting, the membership will be asked to elect five new Trustees. Three whose term is expiring, and two who have decided they simply can not continue to devote the time necessary to serve on the Board. If you are interested in serving as a Trustee please let me or another Board member know and we will put your name forward at the meeting.
In addition to electing new Trustees, the Board will be asking the membership to approve a change to our existing By-Laws. The proposed change does three things. One, it formally does away with the Nominating Committee. which has not operated in practice for some time. Two, it removes the prohibition on Trustees serving more than two consecutive terms. The reason for both these changes is the same. Frankly there are simply a limited number of people who are able and willing to devote the time and energy necessary to run a Club like ours effectively. The third change makes it clear that the deadline for reserving your current year’s dock for the next season is October 1, not November 1. This change is being suggested because it will help the Board determine our plans for the next season as well as prepare for the winter storage season. A copy of the By-Laws the Board proposes is linked here for your review.
The Board has also decided to update our Ground Rules. These too are linked here for your review. The Ground Rules do not require a vote of the general membership for approval and are effective as of September 30, 2026. The main reason for the changes to the Ground Rules is to address a few isolated instances of inappropriate behavior and to make it clear that when the Clubhouse is open and serving, no members may bring food or alcoholic beverages in from the outside to consume on premises. We hope these changes are not controversial, but I will be happy to discuss them in more detail at the annual meeting or in private if you prefer.
