Learn more about a Membership with LHBC
The Lorain Harbor Boat Club (LHBC) offers a boating and socializing experience to its members as we meet around the enjoyment and mutual support of boating on Lake Erie and the waters around Lorain, Ohio. The club offers modern, floating docks for up to 50 boats with close, easy access to power, water, restrooms and related facilities. As a member club of the Inter-Lake Yachting Association we offer our Active members access to reciprocal benefits at other I-LYA clubs such as access to lower-cost (or free) transient docks and racing programs. Within our own club we offer a members' only bar operation to enhance the socializing with fellow members.
The club sponsors multiple summer social activities such as pig-roasts, clam-bakes, regattas and ad hod get togethers. We also host a members-only bar at our clubhouse. We sponsor weekly and annual races for our sailing members. And we have multiple opportunities to join cruises to nearby ports for those who enjoy the comradary of cruising in a group. Members also receive discounts to access training programs provided by the Lorain Boating Education Foundation such as an adult learn-to-sail program and an annual one-week sailing day camp for teens.
We offer two primary levels of membership - Active and Social. Active members have full access to all member benefits including dock rental, winter storage and the right to vote at club member meetings. Each Active Membership recognizes a primary and associate member, ideal for a couple. Social members have full access to our bar scene and to club social events such as annual pig roasts, clam bakes and regattas. You may add associated social members to the primary social member to cover couples or more. Membership dues are listed on the membership application and under Ohio state law are subject to Ohio sales taxes.
Active members enjoy all the benefits of the club as full voting members. These include the ability to rent docks, dry-sail slots and utilize our Winter Storage facilities. Active members enjoy access to transient dock facilities at I-LYA affiliated clubs. They also can take advantage of discount programs in affiliated organizations including BoatUS and US Sailing memberships. See a summary of benefits by membership type in the table at the bottom of the page.
The Lorain Harbor Boat Club is a 501c7 sport/social club under IRS rules. This means that the vast majority of our income must come from paying members. So membership is very important to the club. Not only for the on-going support of the club's purpose but legally too. Any person seeking to dock, haul-out, launch and store their vessel with the club must also be an active member.
We believe the activities and programs sponsored by LHBC will enhance your boating enjoyment of Lake Erie and we encourage you to consider applying for membership with the Lorain Harbor Boat Club.
